Teaching
about human rights creates a learning environment and fosters communities
where human rights are respected and acknowledged. By participating
in activities, students can come to understand their power and responsibility
as global citizens. Here are some ideas for curriculum content and classroom
activities to get you started.
Create
a curriculum on international human rights issues that highlights
the problems on Burma or add Burma to an existing curriculum.
Education
on the role of the UN to act in situations where there is a “Threat
to the Peace” and whether the conditions in Burma meet these
criteria based on prior UN interventions.
Invite
exiled Burmese, Burma activists, journalists, and academics to attend
class as a guest speaker to discuss the situation in Burma, and the
role that outsiders can play in bringing change.
